RIC Tsukuba Package case study - DOM

In 2016, RIC Tsukuba began RIC Tsukuba Package activities with the Sri Lanka Department of Meteorology (DOM) as part of a JICA technical cooperation project. DOM staff aspire to improve their instrument calibration system for progress with the nation's automatized observation.

  • Provision of national meteorological standard instruments

JICA donated a digital barometer and a thermometer to DOM as national standard instruments with international traceability in 2016 along with inspection equipment.

  • Technical training in Japan and Sri Lanka

In February 2016, four DOM experts were invited to RIC Tsukuba for training on the importance of instrument traceability/calibration and practical training on thermometer and barometer calibration (figure below; see DOM visit for on-the-job training in calibration (2016)).
